Before working as a nurse, I worked as a Medical Records Processor for over 2 years. I used to handle laboratory results and other medical records to be used for research purposes mainly for Multiple Sclerosis and Inflammatory Bowel Disease conditions. I have learned a lot working under this field which later on, when I did apply as a staff nurse, I got assigned at the endoscopy unit and there, i was able to use my previous knowledge about IBD. While I was employed at PicnicHealth Inc., I was HIPAA trained and I was able to complete a course on NIDA Clinical Trials Network Good Clinical Practice. I did have bedside experience before i got into the specialty unit but it was in the endoscopy unit that I learned anesthetic medications, their -----------, IV line insertion, in depth knowledge about colon and gastric conditions and I had a great team of doctors who were constantly teaching us like we were their fellows. I was able to assist them first hand with those procedures, also assisted in ERCP and other special and therapeutic interventions.
